VIJAYPUR, July 13: Former Minister and senior National Conference leader Surjeet Singh Slathia today visited the rain and flood affected areas of Ramgarh in Vijaypur Assembly Constituency and took stock of damages caused and problems being faced by the people who have shifted to make-shift camps in the close vicinity.
After meeting affected families lodged at Govt School Keso Mr Slathia demanded that the Government must immediately take necessary measures to provide assistance to the people who have abandoned their houses due to threat caused by torrential rains and flood for the past several days. He also assured the people that he would take up the issue with the higher authorities.
The former Minister, who has represented the Constituency continuously for several terms in the past expressed anguish over lackadaisical approach of the PDP-BJP coalition in coming to the rescue of suffering people at their hour of need. He said the torrential rains have caused landslides and soil erosion during the past few days, as a result of which utility services have been badly hit. “The situation calls for deploying special teams to provide necessary succor to affected families”, he maintained.
Mr Slathia visited Brota, Nanga, Rangoor, Kamore and Kamore Camp villages, which have been badly hit due to incessant heavy rains and urged the Government to provide six months’ free rations to the sufferers. He said nearly 45,000 hectares of cultivable land has been eroded and therefore, the situation demands immediate conduct of survey for assessing the losses and releasing compensation to the affected population. He also sought free cattle feed to the farmers so that their sole source of income do not suffer.
