Slathia visits shelling hit border areas

samba, Oct 23: Former Minister and MLA Vijaypur, Surjeet Singh Slathia visited several forward villages in Ramgarh and Arnia sectors of the Jammu region and took stock of the situation arising in wake of shelling from across the border.
Accompanied by senior officers of the district administration and National Conference leader Kamal Arora, he said the Government was aware about the difficulties they were facing due to firing and assured that all the necessary steps would be taken to ensure their safety and well being.
Interacting with the people of Samdhu, Abtaal Nanga and Jerdea of Ramgarh sector and Nandpur Tibba, Joyian, Kathar, Pindi Camp, Pindi Chakran, Kaku-de-Kothe, Chana Changiya, Kandhral and Triva of Arnia Sector, Mr Slathia said that there was no need to become panic as the security forces were capable to meet the situation.
He said the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has discussed with the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde during his visit to the affected villages the problems being faced by the people in the event of firing.
He said that the border people were living in peace due to the ceasefire agreement since 2003 but the sudden tension on borders has again jeopardised their life. He expressed hope that the borders will again turn calm so that the people continue to live in peace and harmony.
Mr Slathia appreciated the resilience of the border people and hoped that they will meet the situation with fortitude and courage, as they have shown from time to time.
