DODA, June 22: In a major initiative to improve cognitive function and mental skills among girls besides boosting sports tourism in a big way, the National level, AICF Smart Girl FIDE (Federation International Des Echecs) Rating Championship commenced today at Bhadarwah.
The first of its kind 5-day Championship in Chenab region, in which 56 girls from 11 States are participating, was inaugurated by SP Bhadarwah Vinod Sharma and CEO BDA Bal Krishan.
The event which is being mentored by National champion Arushi Kotwal of Bhadarwah is being organized by AICF (All India Chess Federation) in collaboration with Bhaderkashi Chess Federation and Amazing Bhadarwah Tourism Association.
The CEO BDA said that the National level tournament being played on such a large scale will surely upgrade the overall profile of Bhadarwah at International level and this event will also attract sports tourism in a big way.
SP Bhadarwah said the event will surely motivate local youth to switch from mobile and adopt mental game, and chess is the best available option which is played indoor.
Trina Sen Gupta from West Bengal said that she was a little apprehensive in the beginning to come to this far off part of the country but now it is turning out to be a life time experience. We can’t ask for more as the atmosphere and the surroundings here of the venue is breathtaking, she added.
