JAMMU, Aug 26: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) Narayana Superspeciality Hospital in association with Jammu Traffic police launched a Road Safety Campaign today with the slogan ‘I love Traffic Rules, They Save Lives’.
The campaign aims to spread awareness about the dangers of riding without helmets and the importance of following traffic rules.
The drive was held at Dogra Chowk near Press Club in Jammu. Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Nisha Nathyal along with Daljit Singh (DSP-South) Ranu Kundal (DSP-North), Inspector Vikas Gorkha and Inspector Ashwini Kumar were present at the event along with the team from SMVD Narayana Hospital.
While emphasizing on the importance of riding safely and following traffic rules, Nisha Nathyal said, “Any damage to the brain can cause a wide range of complex problems, even death. Helmets are known to reduce severity of brain injury, skull fractures, facial injuries and nerve damage in the event of an accident”.
“As India has one of the highest rates of motorcycle injuries, it is vital to increase awareness about road safety. Many injuries can be averted and at times the extent of head injuries and brain damage can be significantly reduced just by wearing a helmet. As citizens, we are responsible not only for our own safety but that of others too”, said Dr JP Singh, Consultant Neurosurgeon, SMVD Narayana Superspeciality Hospital.
Dr Vikas Padha, Consultant, Orthopaedic and Joint replacement, also present at the event, said that by wearing helmets, bikers not only protect themselves, but also their families.
During the day, over 100 helmets were distributed. The program was also supported by 92.7 Big FM.
