SMVDSB’s Carrom Tournament for women gets underway

KATRA, Mar 12: Four matches were played in the individual event and two in the double category on the first day of the annual Carrom Tournament, being organized for the female employees of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) at Shrine Board’s Sports Complex, here today.
Shikha Dhar defeated Sushma Devi, Sakshi prevailed over Poonam, Sapna got better of Usha Sharma, Sunita outplayed Pooja and Veena trounced Parshotama in the singles category, while in the doubles category, the pair of Sakshi and Sushma defeated Shikha Dhar and Priya Khajuria and the duo of Pooja and Ekta drubbed the pair of Sushma and Sunita.
Dr M Kumar, Additional Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, was the chief guest on the occasion, who inaugurated the tournament and interacted with the players and officials.
He said that it was delight to observe the tremendous response from women participants of the Shrine Board in this tournament, adding that more events would be organized to further encourage their participation in other sports disciplines.
Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, SMVDSB and Director of the Tournament said that with the creation of state of art sports facilities by the Shrine Board, encouraging response is being received from local participants as well as from SMVDSB staff, adding that in this tournament, 15 players representing various wings of the Shrine Board participated.
