UT level Chess C’ship concludes

JAMMU, Mar 23: J&K UT level Chess Championship, organised by All J&K Chess Association, concluded at International Delhi Public School Sunjwan, here today.
Soham Kamotra clinched senior open crown, whereas Sumit Grover and Ashutosh Jamwal secured 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. Soham also won the under-19 and under-17 events, whereas Meenal Gupta won the under-19 event, while Arushi Kotwal got 2nd position and Mansha Mahajan secured 3rd place.
Meenal and Arushi remained unbeaten in both women and age category events. Both the games played between Meenal Gupta and Arushi Kotwal ended in a draw, while winner in women category and under-19 were declared on basis of Buckloz system where scores of opponents are counted to declare the winner.
In boys under-19 and under-17 groups, Surinder Gupta and Saksham Koul got 2nd and 3rd positions respectively, whereas in girls under-17, Arushi Kotwal won 1st prize and Ojaswani Mengi and Manasvi Gupta stood 2nd and 3rd.
In boys under-15 category, Pranav Abrol won gold medal, while Rujuraj Dhotre and Aryan Raj Bali got 2nd and 3rd places, whereas in boys under-13, Aarav Gupta won gold medal while Abhiveer and Amandeep clinched 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
In girls under-15, Amrita Gupta won gold medal while Alankrita Sharma and Manasvi Gupta stood 2nd and 3rd, whereas in girls under-13 category, Alankrita Sharma, Manasvi Gupta and Radhika claimed 1st, 2nd and 3rd spots respectively.
Dr SD Singh ADGP Police was chief guest while Sohail Kazmi eminent journalist was guest of honour. Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest appreciated the organiser for conducting this wonderful event.
Atul Kumar Gupta, president AJKCA said that soon many big events are on the cards for J&K.
Col. Rushikesh Dhotre , MD IDPS Suminder Singh, Swarn Choudhary, Principal Randeep Wazir, Arshid Ahmed, secretary; AR Wani, senior vice president; Baldev Raj vice president; Raj Kumar joint secretary; Kuljeet Singh Jamwal organizing secretary of the Chess Association were also present along with J&K Basketball Association, Ashiq Ahmed.
The matches were conducted by Vivek Bharti under the supervision of Atul Kumar Gupta, president and Arshid Ahmad, secretary of the Association.
