JAMMU, Jan 2: Top rated player and J&K UT level champion, Soham Kamotra emerged winner of the Mayor Cup Chess Championship by scoring highest points, organized by District Chess Association in collaboration with Crown Trust at Om Palace Shakti Nagar, here today.
He received Rs11000 cash prize and a glittering trophy, while Sumit Grover won 2nd place and a cash prize of Rs 6000 and a trophy and Arvindu succeeded to win 3rd place as well as cash prize of Rs 3000 along with trophy, besides others who won cash prizes include Arvindu, Arushi Kotwal (Best Woman Player), SP Sharma (Best Veteran) and Aarav Gupta (Best U-12 Players) and all of them were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 1000 each.
Mayor JMC Chander Mohan Gupta was chief guest on the occasion who distributed cash prizes worth Rs 25000 among the winners. The Mayor praised the Association for conducting a wonderful event and giving a continuous platform to the players. Mayor also promised to conduct more such events to channelize the energy of youth towards a positive direction.
Earlier, the event was declared open by Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta in presence of Atul Kumar Gupta, president All J&K Chess Association.
Prominent businessman Raj Kumar Gupta was also honored by the Association in presence of Baldev Raj, Kuljeet Jamwal, Raj Kumar, Vikas Nanda, Khalid Amin and others.
