Solid security in place: DG BSF

NEW DELHI, June 21:
The BSF today said it has made some very “solid” arrangements to foil infiltration bids from across the Indo-Pak border and deployed smart gadgets and troops to check such attempts.
“It is true that terrorists are assembled across the border and they regularly try to infiltrate and come into our country. I can assure you that we have made very solid arrangements and every such attempt will be foiled,” BSF Director General K K Sharma said.
“By using technological solutions and better deployment, we will ensure that infiltration does not happen,” he said on the sidelines of an event here.
Sharma was asked about measures that the border guarding force has taken to ensure that infiltration and Pathankot-like incidents do not take place from across the Indo-Pak International Border in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.
He said the force, part of the overall security deployment along with CRPF, Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, has also made similar “pukhtaa” (solid) arrangements to ensure a smooth Amarnath yatra, beginning July 2.
“I can assure you that this year also, solid arrangements have been made and we will conduct it (yatra) very peacefully,” he said.
The 48-day yatra will commence from the twin routes of Baltal in Ganderbal district and Chandanwari in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, in order to curb cross-border infiltration, the BSF has decided to install tools like cow bells and nets along border areas in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.
“The tools, including domestic equipment like cow bells, ‘ponchu’ nets and trip layers, have been placed along the border areas in the district,” DIG BSF, Ravi Gandhi, said.
The cow bells have been attached to fencing at the International Border. If some intruder tries to cross it, the bells would generate a ringing sound, thereby alerting the BSF men, the DIG said.
He said that a trip layer is a cracker that bursts and emits light when the wire is touched, thus alerting the force about potential intrusions.
‘Ponchu’ net, he said, traps the leg of the intruder making it difficult for him to walk. (PTI)
