Solitary goal win helps J&K enter QFs in Santosh Trophy

JAMMU, Feb 4: A superb goal via penalty kick by Sheikh Rizwan helped Jammu and Kashmir to beat formidable Assam by a solitary goal and enter quarterfinals of the ongoing Senior National Santosh Trophy, being held at Sports Stadium, Sigra, Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
In a tough contest, after the goalless first-half, both the teams tried their level best to get a lead and made move after move for the same, yet it was J&K, which succeeded in scoring a goal in the 70th minute of the match through a penalty kick. And the final whistle blew when the score was (1-0) in favour of J&K.
Earlier, in its first match on the other day, J&K defeated Rajasthan by three goals to one (3-1) in an easy contest. Rizwan, Yaseen and Zubair were the goal scorers for J&K.
Now, J&K will leave for Cochin in Kerala to play their quarterfinal match.
The Jammu and Kashmir team is being accompanied by Satpal Singh as coach, Zahoor Ahmed as manager and Dr Karan Nayyar as physio.
