Somveer lifts Bhamag Kesari title

MLA Reasi Baldev Raj Sharma and Shiv Kumar Sharma felicitating wrestler Somveer after he clinched Bhamag Kesari title on Friday.

KATRA, May 17: On the concluding day of 3-days Shiv Parvati Mela, Haryana Wrestler Somveer of Rohtak lifted the “15th Annual Bhamag Kesari” Vishal Dangal title 2013 by defeating wrestler Tinku of Ludhiana in Punjab in a neck to neck contest at Sardabbar (Kalsote) Moungri, here today.
Somveer was awarded with cash prize of Rs 6,000 alongwith traditional silver gurj (Gadda) and Patta by the chief guest, MLA Reasi Baldev Raj Sharma and Shiv Kumar Sharma, while cash prize of Rs 5,000 was given to runner-up wrestler Tinku by Incharge SSP Udhampur Benam Tosh and Advocate Swantanter Dev Kotwal.
The Vishal Dangal was organized by J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association in collaboration with J&K Police Department, J&K Tourism Department, J&K Bank Ltd., Amar Memorial Trust Katra and Bhamag Kesari Dangal Committee under the overall supervision of president J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association Shiv Kumar Sharma and chairman Lord Shiv-Parvati caves (Moungri) Development Board, Swantanter Dev Kotwal.
Second main bout was won by Ranjeet of Ludhiana by defeating Atul of Rohtak. Rs 5,000 was awarded to winner while Rs 4,000 to runners-up.
MLA Reasi Baldev Raj Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion who gave away cash prizes to the winner and runner-up wrestlers. Baldev Raj Sharma announced Rs five lakh for construction of Stadium for the convenience of Pilgrims. The treasurer Indian Style wrestling Association of India and Member J&K State Sports Council Shiv Kumar Sharma presided over the function. Panthers Party Supremo, Professor Bhim Singh, MLC, Kupwara, Sayed Rafiq Shah, Incharge SSP Udhampur, Benam Tosh, Advocate Swantanter Dev Kotwal were the guests of honour. BDO Sajjad Bashir Sumbria, Mela Officer Tehsildar, Udhampur, Sanjeev Goswami, General Secretary Panthers Party Anita Thakur, Advocate Meenakshi Thakur, Dhani Ram Atri, Advocate Surinder Khajuria, Social Worler Sunil Badiyal, Industrialist Udhay Vir Singh, Virender Sharma and Hans Raj Thakur were also present on the occasion.
