LEH, June 10: With   switching on of the borewell and unveiling of foundation stone, Ladakh Integrated Development Project at Ranbirpur, Thiksey was today inaugurated by CEC, LAHDC, Dr Sonam Dawa and Dr Ajit Kumar, VC- NIFTEM.
The inaugural and Bhumi Puja program was organized by Ladakh Farmers & Producers Co-operative Ltd (LFPCL). Later, the dignitaries customary sowed the seeds and inspected the photo exhibition/ demonstrations.
Dr Sonam Dawa    said that this project is dream come true for people of Ranbirpur, Thiksey of cultivating this barren land. He said that it’s now the responsibility of local people to ensure success of this pilot project in next two years through their dedicated hard work in coordination with the concern allied departments.
CEC also stressed the need of value addition for local products like agriculture or horticulture products, pashmina, sea buckthorn, etc to ensure profit and direct benefit to the producers.
VC-NIFTEM, Dr Ajit Kumar urged the farmers to make judicious use of every inch of land and drop of water and to adopt new techniques and methods of advance farming to ensure maximum production and high profit. He suggested Hill Council to establish a food processing training centre for farmers in Leh.
EC Agriculture, Tsering Wandus, expressed high expectations from the project with the involvement of senior experts from India and hoped for good progress and benefit for the farmers of Ladakh.
Dr Shikhamany Surupa, former Director IHRI called the project a nicely woven fabric and expressed hopes for its success with continuous effort of team work, dedication and cooperation among all the stakeholders.
Dr Pitam Chandra, Director NIFTEM said that the success of this project will bring prosperity to Ladakh for which everyone has to work hard with full commitment, updated skills, changed work culture by ensuring synergy and integration among the teams involved.
Giving a detail description about the Ladakh Integrated Development Project, Mr Mantoo said that it is a pilot project for 2 years, “an effort to make it a developmental model to replicate in the rest of the country.”
Padamashree Chewang Norphel, president Ladakh Farmers & Producers Co-operative Ltd, said that nothing is   impossible in today’s world.
Others, present on the occasion, were EC Animal Husbandry Mumtaz Hussain, dignitaries from Delhi, former MP P Namgial, former MLC Nurboo Gyaltsan, PDP president Tashi Gyaltsan, District officers, Scientists from DIHAR, LNP representative, Bank Managers, village Sarpanch, Nambarders and villagers.
