LEH, Aug 1: Union Minister of State for Youth Affair and Sports, Sarvananda Sonowal inaugurated 6-days National Integration Camp organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Leh, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, GoI at Sindhu Sanskriti Hall, here today.
Minister for Urban Development and Local Bodies J&K Nawang Rigzin Jora, Director Finance Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Delhi S K Thakur, and Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Simrandeep Singh were also present on the occasion.
As many as 150 youth drawn from six States of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand and Jammu and Kashmir are participating in the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sonowal said that the tough terrain of Ladakh was never a hurdle for the hard working people of this region and when given proper guidance the youth of this region will definitely work not only for the development of the region but for the nation as whole.
Citing the epithet ‘Unity in diversity’ as unique feature of India, Sonowal said that despite having different religions, languages, castes and creeds, the feeling of nationalism binds the countrymen.
Sonowal said that the youth need to act as ambassadors of brotherhood, fraternity, nationalism and unity.
Terming youths as the most vibrant and resourceful segment of country’s population, he said that they have to play a vital role in fostering and understanding the unity, integrity and socio-economic development.
Talking about various schemes for youths, he said that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is committed to work for the empowerment and development of the youth and to promote leadership and entrepreneural skills, the Government has proposed to set up various schemes to encourage the rural youths of the country.
Praising the works of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan he said that this organization is working on various fronts of youth development with various youth related schemes and programmes.
While speaking on the occasion, Nawang Rigzin Jora said that despite Ladakh being a difficult and inhospitable area situated on the border it has evolved a different culture of patriotism and stands as a guard of the nation.
Strongly stressing on the communal harmony Jora said that like different culture and tradition of different parts of India, Ladakh has its own cultural identity and it is the need of the hour to conduct such camps in different parts of the country to recognize and understand these differences.
Deputy Commissioner Leh, Simrandeep Singh, Director NYKS Delhi S K Thakur and Zonal Director NYKS J&K Sukhdev Singh also spoke on the occasion.
A colourful cultural programme was also presented by the participating Kendras on the occasion.
