Sopori, Ragini touch hearts at RS Pura Border

JAMMU, Feb 25: The ongoing 10th annual edition of prestigious SaMaPa Aalap Festival, being presented by Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts (SaMaPa) in collaboration with Department of Tourism, Jammu, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and Department of Information and Public Relations, J&K was held in the open lawns of Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Education and Research, RS Pura.
The concert featured Santoor recital by music maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori and Sufi vocal by Ragini Rainu, which received overwhelming response on 10th day of the festival at the border area RS Pura.
Ragini presented various qalams of Baba Bulleshah composed by her guru the great music legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori. She concluded her recital with the traditional composition “Damadam Mast Qulandar” and the young children joined her in singing the compositions. Abhay Sopori presented Raga Ahir Bhairav making the children sing with him through the recital. He briefly explained the basics of music and development of a melody from combination of different notes. He highlighted the high need to provide opportunities in the field of culture to children both at learning stage as well as creating avenues so that a platform is available to display their talent. He said that there is abundance of talent in border areas but a sincere and effective direction is needed to harvest this talent. He added that he was proud to see the young children of RS Pura of age as little five sitting for hours together and listening to the music concert.
Principal of the institute Sushil Chaudhary said that this border area does not have much means to transform the lives but SaMaPa initiatives will certainly prove a landmark as young children have been initiated and a lot of interest has been developed.
