Sopori’s 9th annual ‘SaMaPa Aalap Festival’ from today

JAMMU, Feb 9: The 9th edition of the prestigious SaMaPa Aalap Festival (SAF) is all set to resonate Jammu with music for the next 15 days from Feburary 10 to February 24. Presented by the great music legend Pt. Bhajan Sopori and music maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori’s Academy – SaMaPa Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts, the prestigious SAF is the premier classical, Sufi and folk music festival of Jammu & Kashmir State.
Speaking to the media here today, Abhay Rustum Sopori, secretary SaMaPa, revealed that SAF 2014 will feature around 35 presentations at around 25 different venues. The festival will also feature some special presentations like concerts at Jammu Press Club specially designed for the journalists and media personalities of J&K. As part of the cultural social responsibility initiative of SaMaPa, concerts will also be held at the border areas like R.S. Pura, Rajouri, Poonch, etc. Special concert will also be organized at various orphanage homes, child care centers & old age homes, blind school, etc. Concerts will also be held at places like Katra, Udampur, etc.
SaMaPa has made special efforts in shaping the talent of the youth and not letting it go waste, and creating avenue for them so that they can have a choice to make music and performing arts as their career contributing to the State and national cultural treasure. SAF, over the years, has been a medium for the local and upcoming musicians to share a platform with eminent musicians of national and international level.
SAF 2014 will feature recitals by Pandit Bhajan Sopori, Abhay Rustum Sopori (Santoor), Pt. Ronu Majumdar (Flute), Vidushi Kala Ramnath (Violin), Pt. Joydeep Ghosh (Sarod), Ragini Rainu (Sufi), Ustad Naeem Ali, Vidushi Uma Garg, Prof. Kailash Mehra Sadhu, Nitin Sharma, Jasmeet Kaur (Vocal), Sail Bhatt (Guitar – Satvik Veena), Zunain Halim Khan (Sitar), Krishna Kumari (Folk) and others including Ustad Akram Khan, Pt. Mithilesh Jha, Pt. Durjay Bhaumik, Sachin Sharma, Subhash Kanti Das, Kaushik Konwar, Abhishek Mishra, Neeraj Verma (Tabla), Damador Lal Ghose, Bua Ditta, Ravi Sharma, (Harmonium), Abid Hussain (Sarangi), Kamal Sharma (Dholak), Jagmeet Singh (Guitar) and others.
The festival will also feature Talks by eminent music critics and musicologists like Pandit Vijay Shankar Mishra, Pandit Ravindra Misra and Vidushi Manjari Sinha amongst others including various presentations by different folk musicians of J&K.
