SRINAGAR, Oct 12: Southern Superstars secured their spot in the final of the Legends League Cricket 2024 after defeating Konark Suryas Odisha by 7 wickets at Bakshi Stadium, here today. The victory was bolstered by a stellar performance from Hamilton Masakadza and a formidable bowling display.
Winning the toss, Southern Superstars opted to bowl first. Konark Suryas Odisha faced an early collapse, finding themselves at 8/4 within the first four overs. Richard Levi and Irfan Pathan provided a brief recovery, adding 45 runs for the fifth wicket. Levi scored 22 runs off 25 balls, while Yusuf Pathan contributed 43 runs from 21 balls. Captain Irfan Pathan led from the front with a resilient 62 off 48 balls, helping the team post a total of 148/8 in 20 overs.
Southern Superstars’ bowlers, including Hamid Hassan (2/27), Abdur Razzak (2/19), Subodh Bhati (2/29), and Kedar Jadhav (2/33), each took two wickets to restrict their opponents.
Chasing a target of 149, Martin Guptill opened the innings but fell for just 4 runs. Shreevats Goswami and Hamilton Masakadza then formed a solid partnership, adding 82 runs for the second wicket. Masakadza’s impressive knock of 67 runs off 49 balls, coupled with Pawan Negi’s unbeaten 40 from 20 balls, led Southern Superstars to victory, finishing their innings at 149/3 in 17.2 overs. Konark Suryas Odisha will face the winner of the eliminator match on October 14 (Monday).
