Soz discusses Doda situation with NDMA Vice Chairman

SRINAGAR, May 18: Former Union Minister and  Pradesh Congress Committee president Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz has said that  a team of experts from National Disaster Management Authority of the country must visit earthquake hit Doda areas and suggest long term measures regarding safety of the people in this area.
In a press statement issued here today Prof Soz claimed that he had been following the developments in Doda district since the earthquake struck that area  and caused damage. He said the State Government has responded to the needs of the people.  It is also true that people need tents for moving to the safer areas, but tents are not substitute for the future safety of the people.
Prof Soz said that Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar fall in Seismic zone 4 and 5  and these areas require technology to remain safe during earthquake in future.  It is therefore, important that all constructions  in future must have retrofitting. This technology is available and not very costly.
The PCC chief claimed that he has contacted Vice Chairman NDMA, M Shashidhar Reddy and Dr Muzaffar member of the Authority and requested them to send a team of experts to the area for measuring seismic affects and suggesting measures.
