JAMMU, Aug 28: A seminar on Women Empowerment and Safety was organized at Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu wherein Sandeep Chaudhary, SP South Jammu, delivered a lecture on the topic.
The seminar was attended by hundreds of girl students and faculty of the college. Principal Kaushal Chahal was also present on the occasion. Main focus areas of the seminar were various examinations conducted after graduation for different jobs and scholarship schemes.
SP South addressed the students in detail about various issues like gender sensitization, importance of female leaders, career and educational opportunities available to them during graduation and after graduation. He emphasized on the importance of exposure for the students.
“Most of the competitive exams for jobs and admission to institutes of higher education are conducted in a very merit-based system. The students coming from rural background face difficulty in these exams due to the lack of exposure. The only way to get through tough exams for students from humble backgrounds is to prepare themselves with hard work and dedication,” he stressed. While suggesting the tools for exposure preparation, the SP emphasized on the importance of internet and easy availability of knowledge through YouTube lectures and different open source websites.
Stressing that an educated woman is an empowered woman and in turn a safe woman, the SP said that books can play a very vital role in grooming young people for their bright futures. He named a few books and highlighted the importance of reading magazines, newspapers.
The career guidance part of the seminar focused on preparation for UPSC, SSC, Assistant Commandant Exam, Bank PO exam, NABARD and RBI grade-A and grade-B exams.
The SP further stated that young students are like soil and it is responsibility of the elders of the society to shape them in a beautiful manner so that they can lead a life of dignity and honour. “Unemployment is the single biggest reason behind drug abuse and violence in society. If young people can have dignified careers, they will automatically stay away from drug abuse and violence,” he added.
