JAMMU, Jan 29: Senior player SP Sharma won Dr Bankim Chander Memorial Chess Tournament, organized at Jammu Sanskriti School, here today.
He also won a cash prize of Rs 3000, while a cash prize of Rs 13000 was distributed among the winners of the tournament. It was amazing to see 65 plus players winning the rapid event by playing very high class moves.
In category prizes, Manoj Kohli lifted best senior citizen player award, while Alankrita Sharma won best female award and Hamza Malik secured best under-11 award, besides Anand Swaroop clinched the best under-15 award of the tournament.
Earlier, Principal of Jammu Sanskriti School, Rohini Aima inaugurated the event by playing first move, while Neetu Bali, prominent business woman was chief guest on the occasion of prize distribution. She praised the organizers for organizing the event.
Atul Kumar Gupta, president All J&K Chess Association, Ashwani Katoch Principal Amba Kids School Reasi and industrialist Amit Mahajan were present during the event. Atul Kumar Gupta thanked Jammu Sanskriti School management for providing a wonderful venue and ideal conditions for players.
Arvindu Sharma organized the whole event with Swiss software as per FIDE rules.
