SPMR College celebrates Gandhi Jayanti

JAMMU, Sept 19: Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated in the Post Graduate Department of Commerce (M.Com) Government SPMR College here today.
Principal Prof. Surinder Kumar enlightened the students about the pivotal role of Mahatma Gandhi, his principles and legacy. He further acquainted the students about various career options available after completion of PG course and appreciated the coordinated efforts of teachers and students for organizing such an event.
The first activity was an essay writing competition on the topic “Relevance of Gandhian Principles in today’s world.” The first position was bagged by Purvi Gupta (4th Semester), followed by Taniya Sharma (2nd Semester) and Ashav Kumar (4th Semester) at second position and, Surbhi Vaid (4th Semester), Jasmine Bharti and Iqra (2nd Semester) at third position.
Second activity performed was Collage making on the topic “Life lessons of Gandhi” in which first position was secured by Pushp Preet Kour (2nd Semester), second position by Rupali Manhas (4th Semester) and third position by Rahul Ahirvar and Simran Bandral (4th Semester).
And the last activity was a Singing contest on “Patriotism” in which first position was obtained by Maheshwar Sing Chib (2nd Semester), followed by Tania Chib at second place (4th Semester), and Riya Mehra (4th Semester) at the third place. Consolation prize was given to Kartik Kohli (4th Semester).
All these activities filled the atmosphere with reverence and inspiration. The faculty members present at the event were Prof. Barbara Kaul (HOD Commerce), Dr. Monika Malhotra (IQAC Convenor), Dr. Sakshi Sharma (HOD M.Com), Dr. Kanwaljeet Kaur and Dr. Ramandeep Kour. The proceedings of theprogram were conducted by Aayushi Jain (2nd Semester) under the guidance of Dr. Sakshi Sharma.
