JAMMU, Aug 12: As part of the series of various activities under Government of India’s campaign being organized under the banner of “Meri Maati Mera Desh”, National Service Scheme (NSS) units of Government SPMR College of commerce, Jammu organized a Tiranga Rally cum plantation drive here today.
The event was organised to commemorate 77th Independence Day under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav under the supervision of Principal, Dr Surinder Kumar to foster in students the feeling of patriotism.
The rally was flagged off by the principal of the college Dr Surinder Kumar from college campus towards Canal Head. About 100 NSS volunteers from various streams and semesters along with faculty members participated enthusiastically by raising slogans “Nation First, Always First”.
Later, NSS volunteers also organized plantation drive by planting 75 indigenous saplings and created Amrit Vatika in the college premises. Principal Dr Surinder Kumar appreciating the efforts of NSS Program Officers emphasized that youth should inculcate the values of patriotism for the progress of the nation.
He said these kinds of activities build the confidence of the students to face various global challenges like inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice.
