SPMR College of Commerce organises essay writing competition

JAMMU, Sept 4: Shikshit Bharat Committee of the Government SPMR College of Commerce under the aegis of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ organized an essay writing competition on the theme “Implication of Gandhian thoughts in today’s world”.
About 25 students participated in the activity. Principal, Dr. Surinder Kumar appreciated the efforts of the committee members for organizing such kind of competitions which are helpful in inculcating the values and teachings of Gandhi in student’s life.
He said students should lead their life on the path of Gandhi and in a world that is moving through the phases of war marred by violence and terrorism; there is a significant requirement of Gandhian Philosophy of non- violence, Satyagraha, Sarvodaya, etc. He also emphasized on the truth, the core values of Gandhian philosophy, which has been given a special importance by Gandhi as he himself has tried to remain truthful throughout his life.
Prof. Deepshikha Sharma also said that Gandhi had a set of principles and values to which he adhered to. She emphasized on making rational, intelligent and practical choices of fighting for peace in non-violent ways. The essay writing was judged by Prof. Reeta Meenia, Dr. Deepak Pathania.  Adil Nazir Qureshi of semester 3rd bagged first prize whereas Suhani Gupta of semester 3rd and Pranav Verma of semester 3rd won 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively.
The other faculty members present on the occasion were Prof. Barbara Koul, Dr. Monika Malhotra, Dr Nazia Rasool and Malik Aijaz. The whole programme was coordinated and managed by Prof. Deepshikha Sharma and Prof Rajni Bala.
