JAMMU, Nov 2: Defeating GGM Science College in a close contest by 2 wickets, SPMR Commerce College Jammu won the Inter-College Cricket Tournament, organized by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at Varsity Cricket ground, here.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, GGM Science College scored a fighting total of 140 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Mukul was the top scorer with 43 runs, while Govind and Vikram contributed 30 runs each and Sant Baksh chipped in with 16 runs. For Commerce College, Ajay, Sahil Chaudhary, Sahil Mahotra, Rajat and Surya claimed one wicket each.
In reply, SPMR Commerce College chased the target by losing 8 wickets, thus won the match by 2 wickets. Mohit, Hritik and Surya contributed 27, 25 and 22 runs respectively, while Suryansh and Avesh chipped in with 17 and 8 runs respectively. For GGM Science College, Hitesh and Ankush took 2 wickets each, while Dev Shubham claimed one wicket.
The match was officiated by Saleem-ur-Rehman, Raman Kumar, Rajkumar Bakshi and Vinod.
Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Director Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who awarded winning trophy to Govt SPMR College of Commerce in presence of Ajaz Malik, Dr Brij Baloria, Ravish Vaid, Gagan Kumar, Vikas Karlopia, PD Singh and Jai Bharat.
Meanwhile, the Principal of SPMR College of Commerce Dr JL Bhagat, Convener Sports Committee, Prof Meenu Mahajan, Team In-Charge, Prof Sanjay Singh Ambyal and Physical Director, Malik Ajaz Iqbal congratulated the team for this achievement.
