KATHUA, Aug 23: A Special Police Officer (SPO) of Jammu and Kashmir Police has killed his pregnant wife with sharp edged weapon in Dharalta area of Tehsil Billawar here today.
As per police sources, a SPO identified as Mohan Lal (posted in District Police Lines Kathua), a resident of Dharalta Tehsil Billawar attacked and killed his pregnant wife namely Asha Devi, a mother of two daughters, with sharp edged weapon at his residence today morning and later escaped from the spot.
When the parents came to know about the murder of their daughter, they along with their other relatives reached the spot and set the house of the accused on fire. Later, the fire tenders were called and the inferno was doused. No casualty or injury has been reported in the fire incident, while the exact loss could not be ascertained yet.
After getting information, a police team headed by SHO Billawar also reached the spot and pacified the parents and relatives of the woman by assuring them of arresting the accused as soon as possible.
A murder case has also been registered against the accused SPO at Police Station Billawar and hunt has been launched to nab him.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua RC Kotwal when contacted confirmed about the killing of the pregnant lady by her husband.
“Teams have been deputed to arrest the accused and strict action under law will be initiated against him”, SSP said, adding that during preliminary investigation, it came to fore that the couple was having some domestic issue and earlier also they had heated arguments.
“The exact issue behind the killing will be ascertained after the investigation completes”, SSP RC Kotwal said.
