SRINAGAR, Jan 3: In the rundown to Army Day Celebrations, 27 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) battalion inaugurated week long sports competition comprising of cricket and volleyball tournaments in Bandipora to engage the youths to optimum.
The competitions are being organized in four different locations of the battalion. Paribal Cricket League is being conducted with two separate tournaments at Government Higher Secondary School Kuloos wherein 16 teams are participating.
Watlab Cricket League is being organized in Alusa with 20 teams vying for the winners’ cup, while as Malangam Volleyball Tourney will be organized at Malangam wherein eight teams will showcase their sportsman spirit.
In Kiatsan Volleyball Tournament, seven teams will display their talent and physical prowess.
All the four competitions will see approximately 575 youths being directly involved in the competitions. The overwhelming enthusiasm shown by small children and elders of the villages attending the tournament to support their respective teams has made the competitions more interesting.
While speaking, an Army official said Army has been actively involved in organizing various extra-curricular events and campaigns to promote awareness amongst the locals.
“On the request of the locals, especially the youths, the sports competitions have been organized by the Army in the area. Such gestures are aimed at motivating the youth to join progressive mainstream activities thus inculcating the spirit of bonhomie, sense of belonging and slowly weaning them away from terrorism”, he added.
Holding tournaments of such magnitude with almost youths of 30 villages participating shows that the ‘era of peace and tranquility has ushered’ in the region, the official claimed.
“Such events carry the message of peace, harmony and progress, thereby motivating the youths to become an integral part of the society,” the Army official said, adding these competitions also enable the showcasing of talent in addition to improving the mental and physical health of the backbone of the society.
The Army’s mega gesture to conduct such events to commemorate Army day 2015, will go a long way in better cementing the relations with the people, he added.
