Srinagar, Dec 29: An inter Tehsil sports tournament conducted by Army at Teetwal village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district concluded today. The event was organised with an aim to develop the interest of youth towards fitness activities as well as sensitizing the youth of the social evils.
A defence spokesman said the five day-long festivity concluded with fiercely contested finals of cricket, volleyball and tug of war matches. “Sports teams from various villages of Karnah and Keran Tehsils participated in the tournament. The locals participated in large numbers. Towards enhancing the festivities, upbeat environment and mood of the event, a mela and screening of movies were also organised. The Mela consisting of various games and food stalls in particular drew large crowd including ladies and children,” he said.
The commander of local Army unit, Brigadier CS Dewgun gave away the trophy and prizes to all the winners and commended all the participants for the spirit displayed, he said. He further highlighted the excellent relationship between Army and people, who have always worked together ensuring peace and a brighter future for the youth.
“The entire event was thoroughly enjoyed by various teams and the villagers with great interest and enthusiasm. The village elders and teams expressed their appreciation and gratitude for providing them a platform to showcase and nurture their talent and energies,” the spokesman added.
