KISHTWAR, May 17 : Stressing on tapping the sports potential of youth, Minister of State for Transport and Science & Technology, Revenue, RDD, Panchayati Raj, Agricultural Production and YSS, Sunil Kumar Sharma today said that Government is taking adequate steps for developing requisite infrastructure and logistic facilities to provide conducive environment to nurture the talent of the sports persons in rural areas.
Minister said this after inaugurating an Inter-Zonal under 17 and 14 Boys and Girls Tournament at Government Higher Secondary School Girls, Kishtwar. He also inaugurated a newly constructed badminton court.
Sharma said that students should be motivated to take part in sports and other curricular activities to maintain their health and personality development. He said that the importance of sports and games in school encompasses more than just the benefits of physical activity, it increases self-esteem and mental alertness besides developing true sportsmanship.
He maintained that sports should be made an integral part of the education system as participation in sports is important for all especially children and youths as it stimulates their physical and mental growth. It improves memory level, concentration level and learning capacity of the children enhancing their overall performance added the Minister.
Minister assured that sports facilities will be developed in all the schools and Colleges in both rural and urban areas so the students can get better avenues.
Minister directed the concerned officers to work with dedication and put in sincere efforts to realize the aim of promoting sports, extracurricular activities besides encouraging youth to excel at national and international level.
He also distributed prizes amongst the students who represented the school in state and national level in various sports events and informed that transport department will start special city bus for girl students.
SSP Kistwar Sandeep Wazir, ADC Kishtwar Kishori Lal, ACD Kishtwar Akhtar Qazi, ASP Kishtwar Abdul Qayoom, Distt Officer YSS Dewan Chand, Principal Boys Higher Secondary School Madam Parmila Sharma, Principal GHSS Suresh Kumar and others were also present on the occasion.
