Sports only medium to steer youth away from drugs: Tony

SUCHETGARH, June 7: In a stirring appeal to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, Taranjit Singh Tony, General Secretary of J&K Pradesh Youth Congress and DDC Member of Suchetgarh, underscored the crucial role of sports in combating the rising tide of drug abuse among young people. Emphasizing the need for a collective effort to nurture and promote rural sports, he highlighted the transformative power of physical activity and the importance of engaging the youth in constructive pursuits.
Tony was speaking during the Jai Baba Sidh Gareeb Nath Ji Night tournament final match at Chak Majra here today. On the occasion, Baba Balwant Singh, Captain Rajvinder Singh and Dharminder Singh were also present.
The Day and Night Tournament concluded with great enthusiasm and a display of exceptional sportsmanship. A total of 32 teams participated in the tournament. The final match was played between Powal team and Khawaspur team, with Khawaspur team emerging victorious, winning the match by 10 wickets. After concluding of the tournament, Tony presented the winning trophy to the victorious captain, Paramjeet Singh, commending the team for their outstanding performance.
Tony passionately encouraged the youth to take to the playgrounds and invest their time in sports. Tony called upon local authorities and community leaders to prioritize the development of sports infrastructure in rural areas. “Rural sports development is imperative. Our villages are brimming with untapped talent that only needs the right platform and encouragement to flourish. We must work together to create facilities and opportunities that enable our youth to excel in various sports,” he added.
