Sports promotion Govt’s prime concern: Chib

JAMMU, Oct 20: The Mountaineering Association of J&K and Tawi Trekkers, jointly organized a prize distribution function at Sehgal Hall of Abhinav Theatre, Jammu.
Minister for Medical Education and Technical Education & Youth Services and Sports, R. S. Chib was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the youth take more interest in adventure sports and it is the prime concern of the Government to extend advanced facilities to the sportspersons of the State in different games.
He assured the association all support from Sports Council so that the youth involved in adventure sports would excel in the game and bring laurels to the state.
Chib expressed gratitude to the Union Sports Ministry for sanctioning Rs. 13 crore for construction of an indoor multi-sports complex at MA Stadium. He informed that the GGM Science college would soon have Synthetic Football ground.
The Minister presented prizes and mementoes to the outstanding climbers, teachers and schools for participation in various adventure activities.
S. Bhattacharjee, Chairman of Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee, who is known as the “Father of Sport Climbing in India” was honoured for his outstanding contribution towards adventure sports in India.
Earlier, Ram Khajuria, Secretary of both the Association and Tawi Trekkers J&K presented a brief account of the activities being organized by the association and the club. He dwelt at length on the difficulties being faced by the association for smooth conduct of its activities and achievement of desired results in the Zonal and National competitions.
Various schools which sent substantial number of students for participation in the J&K Himalayan Trekking Programme were also honoured on the occasion.
Lovish Kumar, Gold medal winner in the 1st Junior North Zone Sport Climbing Championship held at M N D P School, R S Pura and Ria Choudhary and Akshay Kumar, bronze medal winner in the 18th North Zone Sport Climbing Competition held at Srinagar were also felicitated.
