JAMMU, Nov 21: The Director General of Police, K Rajendra declared open the 5-day 60th National School Games (NSG) in the discipline of badminton Under-14 boys and girls at Jammu University, here today.
The tournament is being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the aegis of School Games Federation of India (SGFI).
As many as 60 teams 30 each in boys and girls from different States and Union Territories of the Country are taking part in the tournament. These included Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Vidya Bharathi, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Haryana, Gujarat, Manipur, Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, JNVS, Telangana, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.
Director General Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Navin Agarwal, who is also chairman of the organizing committee of 60th National School Games was also present on the occasion.
DG Police who was the chief guest on the occasion welcomed the participating teams and said that such tournaments give an opportunity to the budding youth to improve their hidden talent besides familiarize themselves the about the culture of each other States.
He asked them to sharpen their skill which will enable them to participate at the highest level.
Mr. Rajendra appreciated the players who participated in march past at the beginning of the tournament and announced Rs 1000 each to the players of Manipur for showing excellence in the march past on the occasion.
The Director General YSS, Navin Agarwal while welcoming the participant teams said that elaborate arrangements have been made for comfortable stay of the participating contingents.
He said that the tournament was scheduled to be held in September 2014 at Srinagar but due to floods it is now held at Jammu. He hoped that the players will enjoy this championship at Jammu.
A colourful cultural programme was presented by the students on the occasion.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Additional Director General of Police S M Sahai, ADG Dilbag Singh, IGP Rajesh Kumar, DIG Jammu Shakeel Beig, besides Haji Mirza, Kanchan Bala, Deputy Director YSS, Convener Finance Committee, A R Shigan and president J&K, Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma. Officers of DYSS and SGFI were also present on the occasion.
Detailed results:
Girls section: Maharashtra beat Manipur by (2-0): In singles, Sumit of Maharashtra defeated Maheshwari of Manipur by (30-11), while in doubles Malvika and Simran Singh of Maharashtra got better of Maheshwari and Jaebanlata of Manipur by 30-14.
Punjab drubed Uttrakhand by (2-0): In singles, Noor of Punjab beat Arti of Uttrakhand by 30-22, while in doubles, Noor and Saumye of Punjab prevailed over Arti and Ashwariya of Uttarakhand by 30-29.
CBSC trounces Andhra Pradesh by (2-0): In singles, Riya of CBSC outplays M Laksa of Andhra Pradesh by 30-18, while in doubles, Riya and Aashi of CBSC outclassed M Laksa  and Tejaswani of Andhra Pradesh by 30-09.
Haryana beat Puducherry by (2-1): In singles, Kevpriya of Pudducherry beat Nikita of Haryana by 30-26, while in another singles Shavani of Haryana beat Amirtha of Pudducherry by 30-24 and in doubles, Nikita and Mahima of Haryana prevailed over Kavipriya and Agnus of Pudducherry by 30-29.
Assam defeated Karnataka by (2-1): In singles, Nikita of Karnataka beat Sumiraj Kumari of Assam by 30-28, while in doubles, Debahuti and Raj Kumari of Assam trounced Nikita and Niyati of Karnataka by 30-17 and in 2nd singles, Debahuti of Assam toppled Niyati of Karnataka by 30-20.
Rajasthan got better of West Bengal: In singles, Seema of Rajasthan beat Mandrita of West Bengal by 30-25, while in doubles, Seema and Sejal of Rajasthan outplayed Mandrita and Dimitre of West Bengal by 30-15.
Gujarat drubed Talengana by (2-1): In singles, Nupur of Gujarat trounced Keyuru-M of Talengana by 30-29, while in doubles, Swetha and Bhargavi of Talengana beat Nupur and Janhvi of Gujarat by 30-24 and in second singles, Janhvi of Gujarat beat Bhargavi of Talengana by 30-20.
Boys section: Delhi beat Uttarakhand by (2-0): In singles, Manan of Delhi defeated Akshat Verma of Uttarakhand by 20-15, while in doubles, Manan and Sidhant of Delhi outplayed Prashant Rawat and Akshat Verma by 30-10.
U P outplayed Vidya Bharti (2-0): In singles, Chandan Yadhav of U.P. beat Raj Shakhar of Vidhya Bharti by 30-16, while in doubles, Anuj Singh and Piyush Raj Gupta of U P got better of Raj Shakher and Anirudha Ojha of Vidhya Bharti by 30-27.
Punjab defeated NVS (2-0): In singles, Jewesh Khanna of Punjab beat Johan Yousf of NVS by 30-8, while in doubles, Jewesh Khanna and Parth Soni of Punjab beat Yousf and Mohd Imroz of NVS by 30-15.
