Sportspersons up in arms against concrete flooring; appeals Dr Jitendra, Ansari

UDHAMPUR, June 12: Sportspersons are up in arms against the concrete flooring in under construction indoor sports complex here.
Large number of sportspersons assembled outside under construction Indoor Sports Complex here and raised slogans against the Government and in favour of their demands.
The protesting players were demanding synthetic or wooden flooring in the complex instead of concrete flooring.
While speaking, Tarun, president, Udhampur Table Tennis Academy said that J&K Sports Council has put the future and safety of the players at stake by constructing concrete floor in the Indoor Sports Complex. He said that the concrete flooring can cause severe injuries to the players, joint pains in future and is not suitable for indoor games.
He added that the lightning and flooring of Sports Complex should be of best quality but Sports Council has compromised with the same and making excuses of insufficient funds.
Tarun informed that the construction work of the Indoor Complex was inaugurated by then Sports Minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din on November 16, 2013 with an assurance that the complex will be completed in 9 months, adding that around three years had passed but the Complex is not completed till today.
“We met officials of Sports Council and MLA Udhampur with regard to construction of wooden or synthetic floor at Indoor Sports Complex, but they turned blind eye towards our issue”, he alleged.
Cautioning to launch agitation if wooden or synthetic floor is not constructed in the Indoor Sports Complex, Tarun appealed MoS for Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India Dr Jitendra Singh and to Sports Minister Imran Raza Ansari to look into the matter and fulfill the long pending demand of the sportspersons.
