UDHAMPUR, July 12: Sportspersons today sought immediate completion of Indoor Sports Complex with wooden or synthetic flooring vis-à-vis state of art facilities, so that they can practice their desired games.
Addressing a press conference, Member of Udhampur Table Tennis Academy, Tarun said few weeks back, a DPR of Rs 76 lakh was sent to Department of Sports by J&K State Sports Council for wooden/synthetic flooring, high class lightening system and face lifting of Indoor Sports Complex at Udhampur, but no progress has been seen over the DPR till date.
“If Central Government had sanctioned funds worth crores of rupees for raising the sports infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, then the Government can use some part of the sanctioned funds to make the Indoor Sports Complex at Udhampur functional”, he opined.
He said that the Sports Minister Imran Raza Ansari during his speech in Assembly had assured that the Complex will be thrown open for the sportspersons in the month of September this year.
Tarun hoped that the Minister will stick to his promise made on the floor of Assembly to provide relief to the sportspersons, who held protest in the past and also met concerned officials including the local MLA Udhampur.
If this complex missed the September deadline, then a big protest will be launched in the Udhampur district and for any untoward incident, the Government will be responsible, he added.
During the conference, Sunny Sharma and Prikshit Khajuria also expressed their views and urged the Government to make the complex operational at the earliest, so that the money, which the sportspersons are paying to banquet halls and other places to practice their games can be saved.
