Srinagar to host Federation Cup: Ansari

JAMMU, Apr 21: Minister for Information Technology, Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Imran Raza Ansari today said the Federation Cup Football Championship would be held in Srinagar during the third week of August.
The Minister was addressing officers during a review meeting convened to discuss the arrangement for the smooth conduct of Federation Cup. It was attended by Secretary Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports Khursheed Ahmad Shah and senior officers of Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council and the office-bearers of Jammu and Kashmir Football Association.
Mr. Ansari directed the officers to ensure that all necessary measures are put in place in advance to ensure smooth conduct of the prestigious Football Championship in which teams from different States of the country will be participating. He also called for on spot inspection of various venues, so that corrective measures if any can be taken at the earliest.
Minister also asked the office bearers of the Football Federation to work in close coordination to ensure success of the prestigious tournament.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Federation Cup is being held in the State for which J&K Football Federation had requested All India Football Federation for holding the tournament in Srinagar. Various prestigious teams like Mohan Bagan, East Bengal, Dempo Sports Goa, Mumbai FC, Salgaokar Goa and other top Football clubs from north east would be participating in the tournament.
The system of competition would be on knockout basis and the venues would be Bakhshi Stadium, Polo Ground and the newly constructed TRC Ground.
President J&K Football Association Zameer Thakur gave a brief about the tournament and the measures being undertaken by the association.
