SSB dog wins DG’s first gold medal for animals

NEW DELHI:  Taking the man-animal relationship to the next level, the Sashastra Seema Bal has decided to honour its four-legged loyalists with the Director General’s Medals for the Force Animals, including dogs, horses, ponies and mules, who have performed beyond expectations.

According to an SSB statement, many of these animals have exhibited superior levels of skill and dedication to duty and helped detecting complex cases in counter insurgency operations and crimes during their long dedicated service to the Force.

An SSB Tracker Dog Spencer (German Shepherd) of 48th Bn Jaynagar, Frontier Patna bagged the first Director General’s Gold Medal, during a Tracker event at the 58th All India Police Duty Meet Competition, held at Punjab Police Academy, in March, 2015.

The Spencer also been recognised for his services to the State Police of Bihar in solving five theft and four murder cases. He will receive the coveted honour from  Director General of SSB Archana Ramasundaram on September 29, during the DG’s Parade, the statement added.

It said the other medals to recognise the contribution of Force animals include the Director General’s Special Service Medal (Posthumously) for those animals who sacrificed their lives during operational work and the Director General’s Silver Medal for contribution during operational activities or for winning Silver Medal during the All India Police Equestrian Meet.
