DODA, Dec 16: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mumtaz Ahmad inaugurated ‘T20 Christmas Celebrations Cup’ at Cricket Stadium, here today.
About 18 teams drawn from the different districts of Doda, Bhaderwah and Kishtwar are participating in the tournament which is being organized by Doda Police Headquarters in collaboration with St. George Convent School Batote.
The tournament is being organized under the guidance of Dr Sunil Gupta DIG DKR and under the supervision of SSP Doda and in coordination of Rajesh Gill, while DySP Showkat Ali, DySP Jaswant Singh, Arun Sharma SHO, Amir Karim Wani and Yasir Ali were among organizing committee members.
The slogan of the Christmas Celebrations Cup is “Be healthy- stay away from drugs”.
The chief guest appreciated the organizing team for taking initiative and to conduct the tournament on the occasion of Christmas and said that the J&K Police is regularly conducting sports events on almost all the occasions to promote sports culture and communal harmony among masses by involving maximum youths.
Meanwhile, in the inaugural matches, United Club Doda and New Sairaj Doda defeated their opponents. In the first match United Doda defeated UK Club Doda by 45 runs. Batting first United Club Doda scored 151 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 16 overs with Waqar Ashraf 66 runs, Tahir Ashraf Wani 34 runs and Irfan Shah 11 runs. From the bowling side Umar took 3 wickets while Arshad Bhat, Burhan and Ashiq took 1 wicket each.
In reply, UK Club Doda could not chase the target and bundled out at101 runs. Arshad made 27 runs, Yasir and Mayur scored 18 and 13 runs to the total respectively. From the bowling side, Burhan took 4 wickets, while Waqar and Shehraj shared 2 wickets each. Waqar was adjudged as man of the match for his all-round performance.
In another match, New Sairaj Doda defeated Combined Bhaderwah Club by 3 wickets. Batting first Combined Bhaderwah Club scored 109 runs by losing 9 wickets wherein Irfan made 27 runs, Sameer Malik and Ashraf 23 and 22 runs respectively. From the bowling side, Babar and Arif took 3 wickets each.
In reply New Sairaj Doda chased the target in the last over by losing 6 wickets in the process and thus won the match by 4 wickets. Sameer Shiekh scored 25 runs and Nasir made 12 runs to the total. From the bowling side Amaan took 3 wickets while Ufan took 2 wickets. Babar was declared man of the match.
The matches were officiated by Imran Kalal, Shahid Sheikh, Wasim Raja, Nousher Bhat, Ajay Katoch and Babar Lone.
