JAMMU, Oct 18: Stadium XI and Col RN Chopra Academy Yellow registered convincing victories over their rivals in Under-14 and Under-12 boys matches respectively in the ongoing Col RN Chopra Challenge Cup Cricket Tournament, being held at Academy Grounds, here.
In Under-12 boys, Academy Yellow trounced Eleven Star Cricket Club in an exiting contest by a narrow margin of 8 runs and entered the semifinals.
Batting first, Academy Yellow scored a modest total of 88 runs in the stipulated 16 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process. Adish Goel (10) and Manveek (7) were the main contributors. However, the young opening batsman of a tender age of 8 years and a student of Class 3rd, Krishaang Brahmin though scored just 4 unbeaten runs, yet displayed his class of a great future. For Eleven Star Club, Aryan was the pick of the bowlers, who scalped 3 important wickets, while Asharya claimed one. In reply, Eleven Star Club, after a sensible start lost wickets at regular intervals and managed to score 80 runs in the allotted 16 overs, thus lost the match by a narrow margin of 8 runs. Kastav Sharma was the top scorer with 15 runs, while Pranav Raina and Navdeep Singh contributed 9 runs each. For Academy Yellow, off-spinner, Praful Dhar was the wrecker-in-chief, who spun a web around the rival batsmen and scalped 3 important wickets by conceding just 11 runs in his 4 overs. Ayush bagged 2 wickets, while Manveek and Shavak claimed one wicket each. For his superb bowling performance and a brilliant run-out, Praful Dhar was adjudged man of the match.
Earlier, in Under-14 boys, Stadium XI defeated Academy Reds by 7wickets in a one-sided affair.
Academy Reds after batting first scored 121 runs in a 30 over game. Vidhant Handa was the top scorer with 28 runs, studded with 5 boundaries, while Deepak contributed 17 runs to the total and Harsh and Ayam chipped in with 11 runs each. For Stadium XI, Vivrant, Aniket and Saiyam claimed 2 wickets each.
Stadium XI, in reply scored the required runs easily in 17.1 overs by losing 3 wickets, thus won the match by 7 wickets. Ritham was the top scorer with 30 runs, studded with 7 boundaries, while Abdul Samd contributed 28 runs with 3 fours and 2 sixes and Vivrant scored 25 runs including 3 sixes and one four. For Academy Reds, Akshun and Vidhant claimed one wicket each. For his all-round show, Vivrant was declared man of the match.
The tournament is being held under the supervision of Rakesh Basin, Zabeer Ahmad, Sukomal Ganguly, coach and Deepak Dogra, assistant coach.
