JAMMU, Oct 15: District Administration, Kathua in collaboration with State Amateur Fencing Federation would organize a week long State Level Fencing Championship at Kathua from December 14-19, 2014.
Besides this, on the sidelines of fencing championship, sports week for youth of Kathua and other districts would also be organized wherein many other sports events and cultural events will also be hosted.
The decision was taken in meeting held between Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Dr Shahid Iqbal and president, State Amateur Fencing Association, Mukherjeet Sharma who is actively involved in mobilising rural youth for sports.
The DC Kathua directed departments of School Education, Higher Education, Youth Services and Sports, Nehru Yuva Kendra and Information and Planning to organizing a series of events in the week long sports event with special arrangements for the State level fencing championship.
Principal, GDC Kathua, B L Gupta has been designated as Nodal Officer for the State Level Fencing Championship for working out modalities and arrangements of logistics to be coordinated by all the departments.
President, State Amateur Fencing Association, M J Sharma, briefed about the duration of events, participants and requirement of logistics. He appreciated the prompt response of district administration which will go a long way in promoting fencing in the district as well as State.
Events of Kabaddi, Wrestling, Kho-Kho, Cricket match of senior citizens, weightlifting and indoor sports events would also be organized during the week long sports championship.
