State gymnasts win 32 medals; Palak, Mitali blossom

JAMMU, June 14: J&K gymnasts established their supremacy at the national scene and returned with a rich haul of 32 medals including 3 gold, 5 silver and 14 bronze from the 23nd National Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships held at Thane in Maharashtra from June 8 to June 12, 2014.
The highlight of the J&K performance was a record haul of six medals by  Palak Kaur and Mitali in the senior category, who returned with a haul of six medals, which included 3 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze.
Mitali won one gold medal in the Ball, 3 silver medals in Hoop, Ribbon, All Round Finals and bronze in Team Championships, whereas Palak Kour won 2 gold in Ribbon and Ball, one silver in Clubs and 3 bronze in Hoop, All Round Finals and Team Championships.
In Seniors, J & K Gymna-stics team comprising of Mitali, Palak Kour, Natasha Sharma and Epsita Gupta failed to retain its last years title and managed a bronze medals in the Team Championships. The gold and silver in team event was won by Maharashtra and Punjab respectively.
Pawandeep Kour (Juniors), another gymnast from J&K won five bronze medal including Individual All Round, 4 Individual apparatus finals in Hoop, Clubs, Ribbon, Ball and team bronze in this Gymnastics Championships.
In Juniors,   Mridul Gupta of J & K won three bronze medal in All round finals, Clubs and Team Championships.
The J & K Junior Team comprising of Mridul Gupta, Pawandeep Kour, Tanu Baloria & Tishika won bronze medal, while the gold was won by Maharashtra and silver went to Punjab.
In Sub Juniors J & K Team comprising of Stuti Gupta, Nandini Lakhotra, Tawishi Singh and Sneha performed well & won silver medal whereas Maharashtra won Gold & Punjab Bronze.
In Under-10 Years, an upcoming gymnast from J & K Bavleen Kour performed well and managed to win 4 bronze medals in Free Hand, Hoop, Ball and All Round Finals .
In a message, Patron-in-Chief of J & K Gymnastics Association, Dr Farooq Abdullah has congratulated the gymnasts for this achievement and their selection in the national team for the forthcoming Commonwealth games-2014 to be held in Scotland next month.
