State Karate Championship gets underway

JAMMU, Dec 8: J&K Sub Junior, Cadet, Junior, Senior State Karate Championship got underway at Indoor Multipurpose Hall, MA Stadium, here today.
The three day Championship is being organized by Amateur Karate Do Association of Jammu & Kashmir (AKAJK) recognized by J&K State Sports Council affiliated to Karate Association of India (KAI) and recognized by Govt of India (Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports) and Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
Over 700 participants from different districts of the State are participating in the Championship. The participating districts included Jammu, Rajouri, Kathua, Reasi, Srinagar, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Kupwara, Kargil, Udhampur, Baramulla, Pulwama, Samba, Budgam, Bandipora, Shopian, Kulgam and Poonch.
Ambedkar Gupta, General Secretary AKAJK presided over the function.
The medal winners of senior categories will be called for selections and will represent J&K state in forthcoming KAI Senior National Karate Championship 2018 on January 13 and January 14, 2018 at Netaji Subhash Indoor Stadium, Kolkata, West Bengal being organised by Karate Association of India.
The selection will also be done for KAI Cadet/ Junior and Under-21 years’ National Karate Championship to be held from January 30 to February 2, 2018 at New Delhi.
Kata events of all the categories were completed on the first day of the tournament.
The Kumite events will be inaugurated by Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, Secretary J&K State Sports Council at the same venue tomorrow.
The tournament is being conducted as per the rules and regulations of WKF/ KAI and under the technical supervision of Sunil Rathe, at present AKF Judge, seven times National gold medallist.

In Boys 12-13 yrs Sub Junior, Arindham Sangra, Kathua (Gold), Sudixit Mansotra, Kathua (Silver), Divyaksh Baskotra, Kathua (Bronze), Mayank, Kathua (Bronze)
In Boys 14-15 yrs Cadet, Anshuman Sharma, Jammu (Gold), Khadim Hussain, Kargil (Silver), Akshun Slathia, Jammu (Bronze), Vishawvijay, Kathua (Bronze).
In Boys 16-17 yrs Junior, Manik Dhar, Jammu (Gold), Mohd Hassan Kargil (Silver), Khadim Ali, Kargil (Bronze) and Pranav Sharma, Kathua (Bronze).
In Boys 18 yrs above & Senior, Rinku Sharma, Rajouri (Gold), Gurpreet Singh Jammu (Silver), Naresh Kumar, Jammu (Bronze), Shahzad Ahmad, Kupwara (Bronze).
In Girls 8-9 yrs Sub Junior, Saundrya Rajput, Kathua (Gold), Zenab Mushtaq, Srinagar (Silver), while in Girls 10-11 yrs Sub Junior,
Shreeya Labroo, Jammu (Gold), Nandni Raina Jammu (Silver) and Girls 12-13 yrs Sub Junior, Esra Bint Qaiser, Srinagar (Gold), Rabiya Nissar, Srinagar (Silver), Nargis Showkat, Ganderbal (Bronze), Jannat Showkat Ganderbal (Bronze).
In Girls 14-15 yrs Cadet, Nandita Handoo, Jammu (Gold), while in Girls 16-17 yrs Junior, Iqra Rasool Ganderbal (Gold) and in Girls 18 years & above, Deepa Sharma, Jammu (Gold)  and Azmat Bibi, Rajouri (Silver).
