JAMMU, Feb 8: Amateur Karate Do Association of Jammu and Kashmir, AKAJK recognized by J&K State Sports Council, selected the players for the Kumite Event as per their weight categories, here.
The team: Below 50 kg, Amit Sharma from District Rajouri; Below 55 kg, Suheel Ahmad Mir from Pulwama, Below 60 kg, Ashwani Kumar from Jammu; Below 67 kg, Raja Shahbat Iftikhar from Pulwama; Below 75 kg, Tushar Jandial from Jammu; Below 84 kg, Sunil Sharma from Jammu and Above 84 kg category, Pawan Kumar from Rajouri.
In girls section, Deepika Chauhan was selected in Below 55 kg category and Poonam Slathia in Below 61 kg.
It is pertinent to mention here that Deepika Chauhan is a bronze medalist in previous National Karate Championship and is presently working in Central Bank of India.
The selection was held under the supervision of Amit Sangra, Member National Referee Council from Kathua and under the chairmanship of Ambedkar Gupta, president of the Association.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Umesh Rekhi, Style Chief, Mustafa Mir from Srinagar, Dr. Mehraj-ud-Din from Ganderbal and Jung Bahadur from Samba.
