State Level Inter District Fencing Competition concludes at Reasi

REASI, Oct 30: Three days State Level Inter District Fencing Competition for boys and girls under the age groups of 14, 17 and 19 concluded with an impressive, well attended and colourful ceremony, here today.
Sujit Kumar, Senior Superintendent Police Reasi was the chief guest on the Closing Ceremony, while Vinod Kumar Soni, Chief Education Officer, Reasi and Dr HS Rana, District Sheep Husbandry Officer Reasi were the guests of honour.
While addressing the participants, the chief guest stressed upon the fact that the performance in sports must be made an integral system in the grading system of education,  adding that  it is the only way to give justice to the sportspersons.
He further envisaged the efforts of people behind the preparation, participation and performance of the students.
The closing ceremony was attended by the large gathering of sports enthusiasts and local populace. Prominent among others who attended the function were Indira Khushu, Sports Officer, DySP Mohan Lal Sharma, Principal Girls Higher Secondary School Reasi, PD Sharma, Headmaster HS Kambal Danga, Romail Singh and ZPEOs OP Sharma and Manohar Lal.
Shotu Lal Sharma, National Fencing coach and Kuldeep Gupta, Joint Secretary of Indian Kabaddi Federation and general secretary of J&K Kabaddi Association were the distinguished personalities at the closing function.
The Highlight of the occasion was the honoring of Vansh Mahajan, budding International Fencer with memento and a cash award of Rs 5000 which was announced by the District Development Commissioner Reasi, Sushma Chauhan at the inaugural function.
On this occasion the students of Girls Higher Secondary School Reasi presented a cultural item which enriched the environment of the closing function.
Finals in two categories were played at the closing function.
In the first final, Saksham Gupta of Jammu District in Under-17 Foil category got better of Parshant Chib of Distrct Reasi, while in Girls Epee, Pihul Rajput of District Reasi drubbed Sakshi Vaid of District Jammu.
District Jammu emerged as overall winner in both categories slightly edging over district Reasi which gave tough competition to the fencers of winning team.
The competitions were held as part of annual Calendar of activities by the Department, under the overall supervision of Dr Swaran Singh Chib, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Reasi.
