JAMMU, July 26: 16th J&K State Sport Climbing Championship will be organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K in collaboration with Sprawling Buds School, Chinore (Bantalab) Jammu from August 12 to 13.
About 200 climbers from various districts of the State including Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Samba, Anantnag, Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal where district competitions have already been conducted besides Pulwama, Poonch, Rajouri and Doda shall vie for honors in the two-day competition.
In case the participation exceeds 200 climbers, preliminary rounds of certain categories for Jammu district shall be conducted a day earlier.
The competitions shall be held in eight categories of Men, Women (born in 1999, 1998 and earlier), Boys, Girls (born in 2000, 2001 and 2002), Sub Junior Boys/Girls (born in 2003 and 2004) and Mini Boys/Girls (born in 2005 and after).
Except for Mini Boys and Girls who shall participate in ‘lead climbing’ only, participants in all other categories shall compete both in ‘lead climbing’ and ‘speed climbing.’
A qualified national judge in sport climbing, Shawetica Khajuria will be the organizing secretary and also the president of the Jury of the competition. Other technical and logistic support shall be provided by Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee, New Delhi. The championship has been sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
