State team leaves for Veteran National Badminton C’ship

JAMMU, Feb 28: To participate in the Veteran National Badminton Championship, being held at Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh, the Jammu and Kashmir State team left for the venue today.
The State contingent includes a galaxy of veteran athletes, who will be vying for the top honours in various events and weight categories.
In 35 + men’s singles, Puran Chand and Gurvinder Singh will be taking part, while 35+ men’s doubles, the participating shuttlers include Rahul Sharma -and Pawanjeet Singh.
Rahul Sharma and Pawanjeet Singh will display their skill in 40+ men’s singles, while in 40+ men’s doubles, the participating players will be Somasundaram Sarvanan and Vivek Mehta.
In 45+ women’s singles, Basanti Bhat is the lone entrant, while in 45+ men’s singles, 1. Sukhdev Singh and Vivek Singh Slathia will be vying for the top honours.
Punkaj Mohan Sharma and Daljeet Singh will take part in 45+ men’s doubles event, while in 50 + men’s singles, Ramesh Sharma and Indu Bushan Choudhary will be the participants.
In 50+ men’s doubles, Narinder Khajuria and Ravinder Kumar are the entrants from the State, while in 55 + men’s singles, Harjeet Sethi and Anil Gurkha will vie for the top honours, while in 55+ men’s doubles, the duo of Anil Gurkha and Sunil Gurkha will be taking part.
In 60+ men’s singles, Balbir Singh Jamwal is the lone entrant, while in 60+ men’s doubles, the pair of Balbir Singh Jamwal and Narinder Sharma will be taking part and in 65 + men’s singles, Som Raj Gupta and Vijay Dewan will be aiming for the top spot, while in 65+ men’s doubles, Som Raj Gupta and Vijay Dewan will display their skill in the Championship.
In mixed doubles, the participating pairs included Munish Mahindru and Kirti Sharma (40+), Sukhdev Singh and Basanti Bhat (45+) and Anil Gurkha and Reeta Kakroo (55+).
