JAMMU, July 30: Accusing the District Udhampur Police of having let loose a reign of terror, JKNPP general secretary Manju Singh today alleged that by framing frivolous cases against the party workers, the common man was being psychologically and indirectly conveyed to sever connections with Panthers Party.
Talking to media persons, here today, she alleged that only yesterday, two buses full of Police force were dispatched from Udhampur Police Lines to a Ramnagar village named Dehari where Panthers Party Chairman Harsh Dev Singh was to address a public meeting. “This was deliberately done to terrorize the NPP workers and to scare away the common people from the venue of the meeting,” she said and claimed that several female activists besides other womenfolk felt so terrorized that they had to return halfway in view of the area having been converted into a ‘Police Chhawni’.
“And this was not the first time when such pressure tactics had been used. Earlier also on several occasions, the NPP workers were manhandled and harassed during the course of public meetings by huge paraphernalia of Police force sent from DPL Udhampur in various functions of the party”, said Manju Singh.
Seeking intervention of the higher authorities, Manju Singh called for high level probe, preferably by CBI into the victimization and registration of false and frivolous cases against NPP workers. She said that numerous FIRs had been registered against Panther workers for demanding regular power and water supply and for projecting the developmental issues of the area. “There were further occasions when innocent NPP workers were summoned by police and then beaten mercilessly inside such police stations not only by police but by BJP workers who were especially invited inside police stations for the purpose”, Manju Singh further alleged.
Seeking registration of FIR against SSP Rayees Mohd Bhat for his culpable conduct, criminal intimidation, threatening and assaults on NPP workers besides conspiracy against them and use of force through male police on female party leaders in DC officer Udhampur, Manju Singh announced to launch hunger strike outside Governor House if the requisite action was not taken against delinquent police officer by Monday next.
Gagan Partap Singh, State secretary JKNPP and Manoj Gupta were also present in the press conference.
