JAMMU, May 14: Abhinav Sharma and Sumit Kumar of the SAI Training Centre (STC) Jammu got the National selectors nod and have been selected amongst the probable for the National Junior Basketball team.
The selections have been made on the basis of their performance in the just concluded 69th Junior National Basketball Championship at Ludhiana.
Both the trainees if shortlisted further, will be eligible for Khelo India scholarships. However, Gourav Rajwal, another trainee of the STC Jammu, was left out despite his outstanding performance in the championship due to height bar of 180 cm which was fixed by the selection committee.
It is pertinent to mention here that J&K team put up their best ever performance at any national event, winning 6 of the 7 matches. During their dream run, J&K registered convincing victories over Odisha, Bihar, Goa, West Bengal and Mizoram by handsome margins, and got a walkover against Chhatisgarh, while losing their lone match against Uttrakhand after leading till the third quarter.
President JKBA Vikramaditya Singh, Secretary Dr Vikram Handa and treasurer Ashok Singh appreciated the unprecedented performance of the J&K team.
