Steps initiated to regulate traffic in Leh

LEH, Mar 11: District Police and Municipal Committee conducted a meeting regarding the better management and regulation of vehicular traffic in and around Leh town under the chairmanship of Tsering Gyalpo, SSP, Leh.
During the meeting a threadbare discussion held on various traffic management issue and major decisions were taken unanimously including all the taxi drivers will wear specified uniform and name plate with effect from April 15, the trucks/tankers coming from Srinagar will be stopped at Phyang near LPG plant till 0900 PM, Taxi Union will use their own parking place in Leh town for upto 50 taxies, strict action will be taken against Government employees who are working as taxi driver, all vehicles will be parked at specified parking place, foot path vendors on foot path near Balkhang chowk area will be shifted to the suitable place in the main market, Taxi Union will identify suitable parking place for taxies at Choglamsar Zampa near Karmapa monastery Choglamsar and Administrator Municipal Committee Leh will find out suitable private land near Forest Office Leh for parking of vehicles of various hotels and travel agents.
During the meeting all the participants unanimously agreed to cooperate with the District Administration and Police Department to implement the decisions with the aim to make better traffic regulation/management in Leh, Choglamsar and Skalzangling areas.
Among others present were Ven. Lobzang Nyantak, Councilor of Upper Leh, Phuntsog Wangdan, Councillor Lower Leh, Phuntsog Dorjey, Councillor Phyang constituencies, Ashraf Ali, President Anjuman Immamia, Sonam Dawa, Representative President Ladakh Budhist Association, Abdul Gafoor, Vice President Anjuman Moin-Ul-Islam Leh, Konchok Ishey, Representative LBA Youth Wing, Shabir Hussain, President Anjuman Moin-Ul-Islam, Dr Zahida Bano, Administrator Municipal Committee, Reyaz Ahmed, President Merchant Associat-ion, Presidents of travel agent association, Transporter/ Taxi Union, Nambardars of various areas and representative from Biker Association Leh.
