JAMMU, Aug 21: Peeved over the pathetic plight of the lower rung employees of the State, including Daily Rated Workers (DRWs), contractuals, consolidated besides other un-regularized temporary employees/ workers, who were forced to starvation due to the callous and highly apathetic approach of the Govt, JKNPP chairman and former Minister Harsh Dev Singh today called upon the Govt to initiate measures to redress their genuine grievances.
Singh expressed grave concern over the Govt’s indifference towards the deplorable condition of agitating DRWs besides the highly qualified contractual lecturers who were on 24×7 chain hunger strike for the last around six months with the helmsmen turning a blind eye towards their most genuine issues.
Strongly condemning the State Govt for its despicable apathy and criminal disregard for the concerns of the un-regularized employees working in various Govt Deptt for a pittance, Singh sought immediate review their wages and honorarium which had remained un-revised for the last several years besides regularization of all those who had completed seven years service. He said that it was most distressing to note the exploitation of said workers especially in PHE, PWD, M&RE, Tourism, TDAs etc who were being treated like bonded labourers having been engaged on nominal wages, which too remained unpaid for months and years.
Flaying further the negligible honorarium fixed for various categories of un-regularized employees, Singh sought their enhancement in conformity with the price index. He regretted that while all other States of the country had adequately enhanced the emoluments of their temporary/contractual employees, the J&K Govt chose to neglect them while doubling the salary, perks and all other incentives of its Ministers and Legislators.
Pointing towards the huge gap in the emoluments of contractuals of J&K vis- a- vis their counterparts in other States, Singh said that while contractual PGTs (Post Graduate Teachers) in Haryana were being paid, Rs 29,715 p.m., the contractual lecturers of J&K were being given a paltry sum of Rs 7000 per month. Even the temporary Graduate teachers and JBTs were being paid Rs 24,000 and Rs 21,000 per month, respectively in several other States.
