JAMMU, Sept 19: A large number of stranded Government employees, hailing from various districts of Jammu region today assembled at Civil Secretariat here and demanded setting up of camp office in Jammu till proper arrangements for the employees from Jammu region are made in Srinagar.
Hundreds of employees from Jammu, working in Civil Secretariat and other Move offices assembled in the Secretariat premises here and expressed their serious concern over the order issued by the Government forcing their return to Srinagar under such circumstances. Several employees’ leaders addressed the gathering and termed the order of Chief Secretary at this crucial moment as highly unjustified.
They pointed out that the administration was fully aware of the fact that the stranded employees were not provided any kind of assistance or rescue. They managed after a gap of 3 to 5 days to flee from the allotted accommodation to the safer zones in boats and IAF choppers at their own, from where they managed to reach Jammu in private airlines or moving on foot via Banihal and Ramban. After a week, Govt came into existence and ordered that all the officials should report their duties within stipulated date. It is matter of surprise that without having provided any kind of assistance or having rescued any of the employees, stationed in hotels/ quarters, the said order was issued.
It is also fact that Government is in need of employees for making secretariat functional, but without providing the basic amenities to these officials , it would not be appropriate to make the employees work in different locations of Srinagar. Under such circumstances the Govt should constitute a camp office in Jammu Secretariat so that the urgent work can be accomplished by utilizing the services of the stranded employees.
They said the employees are prepared to move to Srinagar subject to provision of alternative accommodation at the safer zones, which should include the mess, medical, transport facilities etc for all the employees till Darbar moves to Jammu. The officials supposed to move to Srinagar should be vaccinated here in Jammu before leaving for Srinagar. All the employees are ready provided the administration comes to their rescue fully, they maintained.
Later, a memorandum was also submitted to the Chief Secretary through Special Secretary, Reva Gupta at Jammu Secretariat.
