Jamnmu, Apr 24: District Development Council (DDC) Member Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony has raised serious concern over the alleged lack of sports infrastructure in rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir. He demanded effective edifice for sports in the rural hamlets of the region to ensure healthy villages free from drugs, alcohol and criminal mindset, which is eating up the vitals of society.
He expressed this while addressing the gathering during Martyr Deep Sidhu Cricket Tournament held at Mini Stadium Simbal RS Pura today.
In the tournament, a total of 14 teams were participated in which Dost-XI clinched the winning trophy while YCC was the runner-up team. The winning trophy was received by Raja Singh of Dost 11. Amar Pal Singh and Jagjyot Singh acted as Umpires.
The DDC member, who was the chief guest, said that there is dire need to provide sports facility to the youth of rural areas as the drug menace is on the rise in Jammu region especially its rural areas. He said that the Jammu and Kashmir administration needs to come out of slumber to take serious note of the situation on account of drug menace and initiate drastic measures to control it. He asserted that the government must make every effort leaving no stone unturned in promoting sports culture among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir especially in the rural areas.
Tony said that there is a dire need to provide them platform so that the deserving and hardworking youth of J&K get appropriate opportunities to develop their talent and bring laurels to the J&K UT and the nation by achieving success in national and international sports events.
He said that youth are the future of the country and the nation builders Political leadership has the responsibility to channelize the energy of youth to make them meaningful citizens, who can steer the nation to the level next.
Tony also complemented the organizers Gagandeep Singh and Tanpreet Singh for holding the tournament.
Later, Tony met the people of the area and listened keenly to their problems and issues including the lack of seating facilities at the mini stadium, establishment of the park, etc.
Sarpanch Ravinder Singh presented vote of thanks. He also expressed gratitude to SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli for arranging lights during the tournament.
