JAMMU, Apr 7: Hundreds of students irrespective of representing student bodies and organizations today protested against disrespect to National Anthem by a group of students at University of Jammu, here.
The protesters also disrupted the ongoing 1st State Universities Sports Championships, seeking action against those who disrespected the National Anthem, which forced the organizers to postpone the finals in various events which were scheduled to be held today for tomorrow.
The protesting students alleged that on March 5 at an inaugural function of 1st State Universities Sports Champio-nships at University of Jammu, when National Anthem was played, some of the students disrespected it.
Demanding action and probe into the matter, the students had given 48-hours ultimatum to the University Administration but as no action was taken, students this morning took out a rally amid slogans and disrupted the class work.
“One who has no respect for the country’s National Anthem, should not be part of any activity, not to talk of the sports activities only. How can you expect someone, who disrespects a National Anthem, to be a team man. National Songs, Anthems and allied items inculcate spirit, enthusiasm and patriotism among the people. For that matter, those sportspersons who do not show respect for National Songs and Anthems, should be banned for life,” expressed one of the members of the organizing committee.
“We have postponed the finals in various events which were scheduled for today, because of the disruption by the protestors,” said another member of the organizing committee.
Amid slogans ‘Hindustan Mein Rehna Hoga, Vande Matram Kehna Hoga’, the protestors warned the University authorities that they will not let them hold matches, unless action is taken against those who disrespected the National Anthem.
Meanwhile, in one of the videos circulated on the social media, one of the students alleged that ‘nationalism’ cannot be injected forcefully to anybody.
