MENDHAR, July 5: Sudan Club stunned Shaheed Liaqat Ali Club (SLAC) by 3 points (28-25) in the final and lifted the trophy of the Kabaddi event, organised during Shaheed Liaqat Ali Volleyball and Kabaddi Tournament, which concluded today at Government Boys Higher Secondary School tomorrow.
Earlier, Shaheed Liaqat Ali Club (SLAC) trounced Sheikh Club by 16 points (36-20) in the first semis and sailed into final, whereas in the second semifinal, Sudan Club registered 40-25 points win over into Pinto Club and registered berth in the final.
In Volleyball, Shaheed Liaqat Ali Club (SLAC) crushed Knight Rider Club by 3-2 sets and bagged the coveted trophy.
On the valedictory function, father of Shaheed Liaqat Ali, Barkat Hussain was the chief guest, who awarded the winners in presence of SSP Poonch Shahmeer Hussain, who was the guest of honour, SDPO Mendhar Amit Basin, major Vikrant, 2nd IC 37 Rastriya Rifles, SDM Mendhar Shafiq Ahmed Choudhary, Retd SP Abdul Razaq Khan, Chief Organizer Pappu Girdhawar, SHO Mendhar Ajaz Malik, local populace and sports lovers.
The dignitaries also presented ‘Best Media Coverage Award’ to MS Nazki, Reporter, Daily Excelsior and Nazim Ali Manhas, Free Lancer.
While speaking, SSP Poonch Shamsheer Hussain emphasized the importance of games and sports in one’s life. He added that sports helps in developing various skills.
He asked the youth to participate in the sports activities to keep their body mentally and physically fit.
The matches were officiated by Tariq Khan, Basharat Khan, Arif Veer and Ibrar Ahmed Khan as Umpires, while Bashir Mir maintained the scorecard. The commentators were Javed Iqbal and Manwar Ahmed.
The arrangement for the smooth conduct of the championship was made by 37 Rashtriya Rifles under the supervision of 2nd IC Major Vikrant.
